Downtown Des Moines Hide & Seek Ornament Project
I collaborated with the Greater Des Moines Partnership as a featured artist for their annual "Hide & Seek Ornaments You Keep" project. I designed a durable acrylic ornament that doubles as a keychain, carefully selecting the size to ensure versatility and practicality. I chose the Des Moines flag for the design, as it is not widely recognized, and I aimed to reintroduce this meaningful symbol to the community. I admired the flag's design by Walter “Bud” T. Proctor, which symbolizes the three bridges of Des Moines—Walnut, Locust, and Grand Street bridges—connecting the city's downtown ecosystem. Proctor’s red, white, and blue design reflects the central features of the city, particularly the Des Moines River, and highlights the city's interconnectedness. Additionally, I created an informative label to accompany the ornament, explaining its purpose, the flag's design, its symbolism, and crediting its original designer, to enhance public awareness and appreciation for this iconic piece of local history.
